The annual Vernon Parish 4-H Food Festival was held with over 80 participants from across the parish.  Each testing their food preparation and safety skills with the hope of placing to earn points for their clubs and an opportunity to go on to the Regional competition where they would compete against youth from 13 parishes.  Each participant prepared their dishes at home and brought them to Leesville Junior High where they were judged on taste, appearance, easy of preparation and whether or not they followed the rules and regulations.  Many tried out recipes weeks in advance to find the right combinations.  Champions in each category except Wild game will have the opportunity to represent Vernon Parish at the Regional event in March.  Serving as judges were many community leaders and volunteers that often come back year after year.
