The Terrebonne Parish Pet show will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at the Houma Airbase Arena. Be there to register from: 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. The show time is 9:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
All animals must be on a leash or in the appropriate container/cage for the particular animal.
NOTE: No reptiles or wildlife will be allowed. Vaccinations are required for all cats, dogs, etc. No exceptions!!
CATEGORIES: Best Dressed Pet, Most Unusual Pet, Biggest Pet, Smallest Pet, Cutest Pet, Best Pet Trick, Owner Look A-Like, Longest Tail, Shortest Tail, Furriest Pet, Funniest Pet Trick, Shortest Hair (no clipping– un-groomed), Most Obedient, The Pet that looks most like the 4-H Agent and It’s so Ugly it’s Cute.

Terrebonne Parish 4-H will hold a parish rabbit show in conjuction with the pet show Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Houma Airbase Arena. Entry forms can be picked up at the 4-H office on 511 Roussell Street, Houma, La. Entry forms must be submitted the day of the show – no pre-registration.

Join us as Terrebobnne 4-H takes the “Green Carpet” on Saturday, April 2, 2011, at H.L Bourgeois High School, Houma, LA 70364. The program will run 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Contests will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Fun games and crafts will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. At 12:45 p.m. there will be an assembly, fashion show, song contest and awards.
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR 4-H ACHIEVEMENT DAY? Any 4-H member can participate in any of the 4-H contests, which will be held on Achievement Day. 4-H members participating in contests will compete according to grade level divisions.
Divisions are: Division 1 – grades 4 and 5 Division 2 – 6, 7, and 8 Division 3 – grades 9, 10, 11, and 12
Awards for all contests conducted on Achievement Day will be presented at May club meetings.
The following guidelines will help you prepare for the 4-H contests.
DEMONSTRATION CONTEST Category
Demonstration Demonstration may be on any appropriate topic.
- An individual 4-H member or a team of 4-H members may conduct the demonstration. No more than two members may be on a team.
- Demonstration should range in length of 5-10 minutes. No copy of the demonstration is needed. Bring all equipment and other items needed for your demonstration.
4-H PUBLIC SPEAKING
- Contestant may speak on any appropriate topic. Speeches should be 3-5 minutes in length.
- Posters or other illustrated materials may be used.
GOOD GROOMING - INTERVIEW CONTEST
- Boys and girls will compete separately in Division 1 and 2 and will compete according to grade level divisions. Boys and girls in 9th-12th grades will compete together in the same division.
- 4-H members must compete and submit a resume for this contest. Resume forms will be distributed at 4-H club meetings in February. Resume forms must be submitted to judges on 4-H Achievement Day. Participants without resume forms will not be allowed to participate in this contest. Resume forms will not be available at Achievement Day!!
- A judge will interview participants. The interview will be 2-3 minutes in length. Judges will ask questions concerning resume information. Participants will be scored on participation in the interview, manners, speaking ability, overall appearance, and resume completion and neatness.
- Participants must be dressed nicely. Participants dressed in shorts, jeans, t-shirts, jogging suits, and/or tennis shoes will not be allowed to participate in this contest.
SAFETY DISPLAY
- Any 4-H member may participate.
- Use a tri-fold science project board.
- Display must focus on any appropriate safety topic.
- Division I must turn in a poster. Division II and III must turn in a poster and one page typed paper on the subject of the poster.
PLANT SCIENCE CONTEST 4-H members who are in the Discovering 4-H Project, See Them Sprout Project, and the Horticulture Project will be allowed to participate in this contest. Contest will consist of a written test and plant identification test.
PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST Any 4-H member will be allowed to participate in this contest. The contest will consist of a written test pertaining to material from project book. Members who participate in this contest on Achievement Day should also bring a photo sample. The photo sample should be a picture taken by the 4-Her, no bigger than 5 x 7 attached to a standard sized paper. Write a brief paragraph describing your picture. Photo and description must be turned in at Achievement Day.
WOOD WORKING CONTEST Any 4-H member can enter one completed wood project to display and be judged at Achievement Day.
LEAF, INSECT AND BUG COLLECTION All collections are due to the 4-H office by March 25, 2011, by 4:30 p.m. Please contact the 4-H office for more information. Collections will be on display at Achievement Day.
DRESS CODE Casual dress is permitted. Short-shorts, spaghetti-strap shirts, halter tops, torn or extremely baggy clothing, or mini-skirts/dresses are not allowed. Jeans, shorts, and T-shirts will be permitted. If you are dressed inappropriately, you will be asked to phone home.
SONG CONTEST Tips for Creating your School 4-H Song:
- Song: Begin by selecting a favorite tune.
- Be Creative: Replace the words of the song with words about the 4-H club program. Some suggestions are: project books, record books, cookery contests, livestock shows, Achievement Day, camp, community service, workshops, officer training, and club meetings. Keep your song short and simple. Practice is important: Make sure all members know the words and the tune.
- On Achievement Day, sing loud so that the judges and audience can hear. You may include simple dance steps or hand motions. This is not required. Props can be used such as signs, shakers, or costumes. This is not required.
- Music (tape or CD) may be used. Please bring your own equipment. You may perform your song on stage for Achievement Day.
4-H MOVIE POSTER A new movie is coming out...a 4-H movie that is. As a club design a 4-H movie poster promoting your 4-H movie (your 4-H Club). Your 4-H Movie Poster must include the following:
- Must include the word 4-H, the 4-H clover logo and your school name.
- Should promote school or parish 4-H activities (past or upcoming) in which 4-Her’s participate.
- Your 4-H Movie Poster should be on a foam poster– size 20X30X3/16 in.
- Only one poster per school 4-H club.
- Have fun and be creative!
4-H Movie Posters are due to the 4-H Office by Friday, March 25, 2011.
4-H FASHION REVIEW Do you like fashion? If so, you can enter the Terrebonne Parish 4-H Fashion Review. The contest will be held at Achievement Day. Any 4-H’er can participate in this parish activity. To participate in this contest, contact Ms. Cherie Roger at 985-873-6495 for registration forms. Registration forms and garments will be due to the 4-H office by March 25, 2011.
FUN GAMES AND/OR CRAFTS Each school 4-H club is asked to sponsor a game or fun craft booth for Achievement Day. These booths will be open to participants after they complete their contest. Please contact the 4-H office if your school 4-H club would like to help out. You can partner with another school, if that helps. Games will cost 25 cents to 50 cents. Hope to have as many games and fun crafts as possible.

Millions of clover thanks to Coteau Bayou Blue Elementary School for hosting the Seafood Cookery Contest on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011! Thanks to all participants and parents as well. 4-H members had fun making a yummy, yummy fruit salad, racing to the top with leadership, making an edible wetland and practicing teamwork by participating in fun ice breakers. Thanks to Sarah Use’, Jeanne-Morgan Gernon, Ariel Bergeron and Peyton Beattie for their leadership with these workshops.

Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, Terrebonne Parish 4-H members were in the spotlight, showing their livestock animals. These members have been working several months with their animals getting them ready for the Terrebonne Parish Livestock Show and the upcoming district and state livestock show.
