Beef Cookery, Fashion Revue, Ready-to-Wear and Commodity Ambassador Program: Beef | Egg/Poultry Contest Rules: The Egg/Poultry Cookery Contest will be held January 28, 2008 at the Lions Club in Ponchatoula, beginning at 6 p.m. Scoring factors for both will include: recipe, taste, appearance. Also, bring a copy of your recipe. Your name, school, grade and division should be printed on the backside of the recipe. Overall winners will participate in the District Cookery. Details about District Cookery will come later.
Egg Cookery: You must bring the entire prepared dish which uses a minimum of 4 eggs. This can be 4 whites, 4 yolks or 4 whole eggs. NO RAW EGGS ALLOWED IN FINAL PRODUCT!! The 3 divisions for the egg contest are: Appetizer/Salad, Main Dish, Dessert.
Poultry Cookery: You must bring the entire prepared dish to be exhibited at the contest. The 5 divisions for the poultry contest are: Chicken: There will be two sub-divisions in the chicken division (Grade 4-6 and grades 7 - 12). The dish must contain a minimum of 2 pounds of bone-in chicken or 1 pound deboned chicken meat. You may not use special processed chicken. Chicken includes: fryer, capon, roaster, broiler, baking hen, cornish or game hen. Processed Poultry Products: A dish which includes a minimum of 12 ounces of processed poultry products. Some examples are: ground turkey, smoked turkey, turkey ham, ground chicken, chicken nuggets, chicken strips or canned chicken. All dishes containing any turkey item should be entered in this division. Other Poultry Meat: The dish must contain a minimum of 2 pounds bone-in or 1 pound deboned poultry meat, other than chicken or turkey, guinea, goose, grouse, emu or dove. Commodity Ambassador Program: Egg, Chicken and Turkey - open to any age, see leader for details.
Livestock Show: The Tangipahoa Parish 4-H Livestock Show will be held on January 28, 2008 at the Florida Parishes Arena in Amite. It will begin at 9 a.m. There will be a beef, dairy, pig and goat show. All 4-H=ers are invited to come watch the activities. We also have 4-H=ers who will be participating in the District and State Livestock Shows. Your club may be interested in taking a field trip to one of these.
Parish Fashion Revue: The Parish Fashion Revue will be held on March 17, 2008. Only 8th thru 12th grade garments need to be turned into our office no later than March 10, 2008 to be judged for construction .(Remember to attach to the garment: your name, school and a 30 to 40 word script about your garment). This will be read while you model, any garment turned in without a script will be deducted 5 points automatically. Also, the 4th thru 7th graders who will be participating in the fashion revue will also need to turn in a 30 to 40 word script by March 10th to be read while you model your garment, you may either e-mail, mail or bring your script to the office. The rules are: The garment must be made of at least 75% cotton material. There will be 3 categories for 4th - 7th graders: aprons, skirts and pajama bottoms. 4-H=ers in grades 8 thru 12 should make a complete outfit of at least 75% cotton. 4-H=ers may only enter one garment for parish competition. These garments will be judged for appearance on March 17th. 4th - 7th grade 4-H=ers will be interviewed about their garment prior to modeling their garment. Ready-to-Wear - 8th thru 12th grade (13 or older) participants need to turn in forms and scripts by March 10th also.
