Throughout the year, they have been educating themselves and other 4-H’ers about the importance of our wetlands and steps we can take to conserve and restore our wetlands. As part of their education, the club members had various guest speakers at their club meetings throughout the year and took a field trip to Henderson and Lafayette for an Atchafalaya Swamp Tour and tour of the National Wetlands Research Center. They developed an educational wetlands exhibit for presentations, as well as educational workshops for parish 4-H’ers to learn about wetlands.
Service projects the club members have conducted include collecting acorns from live oak trees for Acorns of Hope project and distributing live oak seedling trees to parish 4-H’ers to plant. They also are planning an upcoming marsh grass planting and beach sweep at Port Fourchon.
