The 2007 St. Landry Parish 4-H club year is officially underway as exemplified by the annual 4-H Fall Activity Day held Tuesday, October 16th. The event was conducted by St. Landry Parish 4-H Agent, Lisa Benoit. 4-H members participated in the plant exhibit, pet exhibit and National 4-H Week poster contest. Overall winners in each contest received St. Landry 4-H T-shirts.

The plant exhibit included classes for foliage plants, succulent plants, flowering plants, hanging plants, miscellaneous herbs and pole plants. Ronald Nicholas, County Agent, determined which of the 25 plant exhibits were blue, red or white ribbon entries and which ones were deserving of the award designating them as overall in their prospective category.

In the pet contest, the judges not only judged the 65 pets exhibited, but also gave the 4-H’ers an opportunity to practice communication skills by explaining how they care for their pets. A poster contest was also held on Fall Activity Day. Four-H members designed 121 posters celebrating National 4-H Club Week.

Judges for the contests were Gerald Roberts, Brent Cortez, Sharon Cortez, Lee Hampton, Chuck Stelly, Deidra Rideau, Joyce Stelly, Ronald Nicholas, Sr., Tina Guillory and Cindy Prather.

Members of the parish 4-H Junior Leadership Club registered the entries and served as contest directors by facilitating the various contests. Junior Leaders participating were Melissa Rideau, Brandon Guidry, Emily Boudreaux, Martha Aucoin, James Prather, Sarah Morrow, Courtney Quirk, Chrystal Pefferkorn and Katie Johnston.
