Private Pesticide Certification and Re-Certification

Private Pesticide Certification is required for anyone using restricted use pesticides.  To become certified, testing is required. Testing is available through the county agent's office in any parish. Study materials can also be obtained from any county agent's office prior to taking the test.  A $10.00 fee is required if you take the study materials out of the office. This fee is reimbursed when the study materials are returned. The test is a closed-book exam and is composed of 100 questions. Seventy percent (70%) or better is a passing grade. The test is graded by the Department of Agriculture. You will be notified by the Department of Agriculture of your passing grade. Once you receive your letter you will be instructed to send in a $25.00 fee. It sometimes takes approximately two weeks to receive your card.

Re-certification is required every three years.  All cards expire on the 31st of March.  It is up to the individual to check the expiration date and make the necessary arrangements for re-certification.

Annual re-certifications are conducted in most parishes.  Lost or duplicate cards can be re-issued only by the Department of Agriculture.
