Youth Co-op Leadership Conference - April 4-6, 2008

Youth Conference Logo
What is the Youth Co-op Leadership Conference?
The Youth Co-op Leadership Conference began in 1982 and provides for leadership development in addition to offering youth (Grades 8-12) the opportunity to study and understand our economic system and how cooperatives fit into this system.  Delegates are recommended by 4-H agents, FFA advisors/agriscience teachers, and FCCLA advisors/family and consumer science teachers.  Students attending this conference are sponsored by agricultural cooperative businesses throughout Louisiana.

Where will the conference be held?
The conference will be held at Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center in Pollock, LA., April 4-6, 2008, which provides hands-on involvement for participants as they study the principles and structure of cooperatives.  Students will become active members of a sample cooperative business, interact with current cooperative leaders, and be exposed to different aspects of cooperatives.  Participants meet in small sectional groups that provide a learning environment and the opportunity to develop leadership skills.

Why should I attend this conference?
This conference is considered one of the outstanding youth leadership conferences held in the state.  Why?  Because of the commitment of cooperative leaders and businesses  They are willing to get involved in and invest their time and resources to the youth program.  They know that tomorrow's leaders are today's youth.  A registration fee of $25 per delegate will be charged.  The remaining expenses of the youth delegates are paid by participating cooperatives.  Transportation to the conference is the responsibility of the agents, teachers and advisor and the youth delegate.

What are other students saying about this conference?
"Co-op leaders are very friendly and helpful."
"We were able to get involved and not just sit around listening to speeches."
"I met new friends from across the state."
"We organized a mock co-op and learned what co-ops are about."
"This was the best conference I've attended."

Ten top participants in the conference will receive awards.  Selection is based on participation in the program, completion of a test and a personal interview.  The top three delegates are awarded an educational trip with other outstanding 4-H'ers, and the next seven delegates will each receive a cash award of $50.
