2008 4-H & FFA Livestock Show Rules and Regulations

All exhibitors and parents must attend the pre-livestock meeting. Failure to attend will result in not being able to participate in parish show or sale.

The Parish Jr. Livestock Show Committee will control the exhibition and sale of any and all animals involved in the Parish Jr. Livestock Show. Rules and regulations governing the parish livestock show and sale will be made in accordance with the district and state rules and regulations. The committee may revise or amend rules and regulations as needed. Any rules not covered will be subject to state show regulations.

At the state show at LSU, an exhibitor is allowed to show 3 steers, 3 lambs and 3 hogs, 3 goats and 2 pens of broilers.

At the parish and district shows, an exhibitor is allowed to show 3 steers, 3 lambs and 3 hogs.

For the 2008 Show and Sale is that you will be able to sell 2 animals but only one per species. Animals sold in the sale will be the animals delivered to buyers. There will be NO swapping of animals.

No animals shall sell unless it is awarded a purple or blue ribbon. All animals must be exhibited at the parish and district livestock show to be eligible for state. All animals sold at the parish sale must go on to compete at the district and state levels. The parish sale will be voided on animals not shown beyond the parish level.

All livestock sold in the parish sale will sell according to weight at the parish show, not to exceed 285 pounds for hogs, 145 pounds for lambs and 1300 pounds for steers.

All judging and sale of livestock at the parish level are final regardless of eligibility for district and state.

All calves and lambs will be mouthed. ALL STEERS MUST STILL HAVE ALL OF THEIR BABY TEETH. NO BROKEN MOUTHS WILL BE ALLOWED. STEERS WITH BROKEN MOUTHS WILL BE CLASSED AS YEARLINGS. District shows, at their option, may allow steers that mouth as yearling to show. Lambs will be mouthed at the district shows. Lambs with visible evidence of the emergence of part or all of one or both of the first pair of permanent incisors (central incisors) will be classified blue ribbon lambs and are ineligible to attend the state show.

To show and sell, all animals must meet weights specified below:

Parish:
Hogs:195-285 pounds*
Lambs: 80 pounds
Steers: 850 pounds

District:
Hogs:200-285 pounds*
Lambs:80 pounds
Steers: 850 pounds

State:
Hogs: 215-285 pounds
Lambs:80 pounds
Steers: 850 pounds

*Minimum Hog Weight will be determined by LSU Rules.(One pound per day from State Weigh-In Day)

At parish weigh-in, animals will be allowed to weigh once.

Exhibitors must have animals in their possession and under their personal care by the following dates.

Steers: August 1, 2007
Exhibition Poultry: October 1, 2007
Beef Breeding/Commercial Heifers: November 1, 2007
Market Lambs/Sheep Breeding/Ewes: November 1, 2007
Market Hogs/Swine Breeding: December 1, 2007

All animals must be housed on exhibitor property or he/she must apply for off premises housing. To be granted off premises housing, the exhibitor must be able to see and care for animals daily. The animals are to be cared for primarily by the exhibitor.

Any exhibitor involved in inappropriate behavior such as disrespect for others, foul language, etc. will result in exhibitor being disqualified from show and sale.
