October/November Livestock News

Livestock is a project area that fourth- through 12th-grade 4-H and FFA youth can participate in to gain belonging, mastery and independence by working with various animals.  Everyone is invited to the St. James Parish 4-H and FFA Livestock Show to be held January 29-31 at the Lutcher High School Cow Palace.  Livestock will be on exhibit Saturday and Sunday. The show will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, with the judging of sheep and beef breeding animals, followed by steers, hogs and swine breeding. Also on exhibit will be market and breeding stock rabbits.  The St. James Parish 4-H and FFA members will show their animals and vie for champions of the show. Premiums will be awarded to top exhibitors. The Annual Junior Livestock Sale will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 31, also on the Lutcher High campus.  Many livestock animals will be offered for sale, and the public is invited to attend both the show and sale. There will be no admission fee, and concessions will be on sale all weekend. Individuals and companies interested in purchasing animals can contact the 4-H office at 562-2320 for more information.

The 4-H and FFA Livestock Show and Sale are conducted by the La. Cooperative Extension Service in cooperation with the Junior  Livestock Show Committee, St. James Parish Council, Lutcher High FFA Chapter and the St. James Parish School Board. After competing in the parish activities, livestock exhibitors will attend the Southeast District Livestock Show at LSU in Covington on  February 2-5, and then go to the State Show at Lamar-Dixon in Gonzales, February 13-20.  Please come out and support the youth of our parish during the Livestock Show. 4-H clubs are the youth development programs of the LSU AgCenter Cooperative Extension Service. “It is the policy of the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, or disability.”

Below is a list of livestock entry forms 4-H and FFA members may need to participate in the parish, district and state livestock show.
