One of Louisiana's historic Florida Parishes, St. Helena was established in 1810. It is a few minutes west off Interstate 55 and belongs to the area known as the "toe" of Louisiana. In fact, boots are very much in evidence in this rural region.

The Amite River forms the western boundary of the parish and the Tickfaw flows along the eastern side. Louisiana Scenic Highway 10, once known as the Choctaw Trail, crosses the parish just below its northern border, the state of Mississippi.

St. Helena encompasses more than a quarter million acres, with approximately 200,000 in timber. Pine forests scent the air at the St. Helena Forest Festival held in Greensburg the last Saturday in September. Visit Greensburg, the parish seat, and see the Old Jail and the original Florida Parish Land Office.
