2008 Cookery Contest

St. Bernard Parish 4-H Club Members recently participated in a Cookery Contest on January 12th at the St. Bernard Parish Council on Ageing Trailer.  Contestants could enter a dish in one of four categories, Egg, Seafood, Chicken or Sugar.  Dishes were scored on appearance, taste, recipe and food safety.

While the judging was taking place 4-H Jr. Leaders hosted a series of demonstrations teaching younger 4-H Club Members about how to make healthy snacks.  Participants and their families learned how to make Ice Cream in A Bag, Fruit Kabobs, Peanut and Banana Roll Ups and Cheerio Treats.

First, second and third place winners were awarded neck ribbons while all others were awarded blue, red or white ribbons.  4-H Club members who's dish received the highest dish score will be eligible to participate in the Area Cookery Contest at Southland Mall in Houma, Louisiana.  At the area contest participants will compete against the best dishes from fourteen surrounding parishes.  One of the highlights at the area contest will be a celebration of 100 Years of Louisiana 4-H.
