Red River Parish Overall Advisory Committee Meeting

Introduction of attendees was made
Cindy Smith gave a brief summary of the purpose of the meeting
Review of minutes from last meeting
o Make applications for camps, etc. available with publications in
hallway - these registration forms are now available in hallway at
the Extension office
o Having a monthly after school parish wide 4-H club meeting - first
After School 4-H club meeting was held in March, 2008
o Centennial Celebrations – each month’s activities
o 4-H Alumni search, including parish’s oldest 4-H’er
o Open House Centennial Celebration on January 31, 2008 - which
was a great success
General discussion covered:
o $100 tickets for State 4-H Centennial Fundraiser with winner
receiving $10,000
o Rodeo in Baton Rouge on 8/15/08 and 8/16/08 with part of the
money for tickets sales going to parish 4-H
o 4-H/LSU Football Game on 9/13/08; 3,500 tickets were sold in
four hours; Red River bought 95 tickets
o 4-H Day at the Capitol on 6/5/08: (agents will be at summer
camp) 4 are attending and will meet for pictures with Senator
Gerald Long and Rep. Frankie Howard who will be presented with
two gift baskets from Natchitoches Meat Pie Co., and copies of
parish handout for Senator Long and Rep. Howard were reviewed
o Activities for 08-09 4-H year
“SET” hands on activities on energy, with Red River High
School 4-H’ers teaching “SET” to Red River Junior High School
students
Junior Leadership Club to be reestablished
Multi parish activities with Natchitoches, Sabine and Red River
Retreat for officers
o 4-H Fall Kickoff with goal for a “party” in the Spring
o Regional Outdoor Cooking Team with cooking at cookery contests
o David and Cindy discussed the cookout they assisted with at Wal-Mart’s in Winn Parish and the possibility of having one at
Rivertown Market in Coushatta
o Kim Durr suggested that each club bring a specific item to each
club meeting for a military care package and club with most items
getting recognition in the next month’s newsletter
o Volunteer programs – do community activities such as painting
fences, clean up, etc.
o Fundraisers:
Must be approved by Dr. Coreil
Rummage Sale – Flea Market with proceeds going to 4-H;
$2.00 table, $5.00 table, etc.; a person could label an item to
keep if it does not sale; POSSIBILY on September 5/6 –
mornings only and include a CAKE SALE
Cookbook named “The Cookbook” for centennial of 100 years
of 4-H in Louisiana
o Shooting Sports – Outdoor Skills becoming a great success with
Red River having winners at the state shoot
o Upcoming Livestock Shows: Red River Jackpot – July 11-12; Beef
Showdown tentatively set for September 6
o Upcoming Camps
o ANR activities and upcoming events
o FCS activities and upcoming events
