Nature photographer and author, Clay Coleman, spoke to members of the Pointe Coupee 4-H “1, 2, 3 Snap” Club and their families and friends on March 20 at The New Roads Branch Library.
Mr. Coleman talked to the group about wildlife photography including places, landscape, and animals. He shared with them photos he took using macro-photography or close-up views of small subjects. Mr. Coleman discussed that a ring flash was needed for macro-photography.
The slide show of photos Mr. Coleman showed the group of his backyard, Baton Rouge Botanical Center, Florida, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and Bahamas had everyone in awe. He offered strategies for photographing animals: a) make a plan and b) get as close as possible to fill the frame. Mr. Coleman also suggested the 4-Her’s use a tripod and telephoto lens (if available).
The group also enjoyed viewing his photography of Alligator Bayou and of Lake Martin of the spoonbills and alligators. His underwater photography left many speechless. The sponges, snails, seahorses, and trumpet fish, not to mention the sharks - were amazing to see. Mr. Coleman spoke to the group about how he captured the shark photos – using a wide-angle lens.
After the slide show and photo discussion, Mr. Coleman entertained questions from the floor. He told the group where he had published photos and which books he had photos in. The group was surprised to learn that his photos are featured in aquariams and boating magazines. He even has a McGraw-Hill book that is also in Spanish.
The 4-H “1, 2, 3 Snap” Club is grateful to Mr. Coleman for sharing his wonderful photographs and photography knowledge with them.
