Natchitoches Parish 4-H'ers attend 4-H Day at the Capitol.

Service-learning is a program that was offered by the LSU AgCenter’s 4-H youth development program. The concept takes community service and makes it become more relevant. It allows youth to take ownership of the project while participating in learning experiences.

At Marthaville Junior High School this year learning was happening beyond the classroom. Lynn LaCaze’s seventh-grade health class partnered with LSU AgCenter 4-H agent Laura Brumbaugh to participate in a service-learning project titled "Safety Crew: Teens Constructing a Safer Tomorrow."

Natchitoches Master Gardeners and Sheriff Victor Jones have combined efforts to foster education and gardening skills in the men at the Natchitoches Detention Center.

Topics include 4-H Summer Camp, Camp Roughin It, Natchitoches Parish Standard of Excellence Procedures.

The Natchitoches Master Gardeners will host a symposium on April 25, 2009 at the Natchitoches Country Club, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Cost to attend is $30 and includes lunch.
