Central Louisiana 4-H'ers enjoy 4-H Celebration Stations

Approximately 200 4-H livestock exhibitors and their families spent Super Bowl weekend enjoying the “kick-off” event for the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Louisiana by visiting the 4-H Celebration Stations at the Central District Livestock Show near Alexandria on Friday, Feb. 1.

Teen volunteers from Rapides, Grant, Avoyelles and Natchitoches parishes manned stations such as “Kiss & Tell,” “Barnyard Brainteasers,” “Bean Bag Toss” and “Pick-a-Pop” for livestock exhibitors to visit between stints in the show arena. 4-H’ers could visit the stations and play fun games of skill and 4-H trivia to win a variety of prizes. 4-H clovers were hidden throughout the livestock barn, and lucky winners received 4-H T-shirts. In addition, there was a raffle featuring 4-H gift packs, LSU apparel and fun party packs. All visitors were treated to a slice of birthday cake.

The events were coordinated by the following 4-H extension agents: Lois Brister, Rapides; Esther Vanderlick, Avoyelles; Laurie Lafollette, Grant; and Laura Brumbraugh, Natchitoches. The event culminated with a Buyers’ Dinner on Saturday evening that featured the presentation of showmanship awards followed by a live television broadcast of the Sale of Champions.
