(Distributed 04/18/08) Typically grown in southeastern Louisiana, strawberries are flourishing in Madison Parish at Grady’s Garden, said R.L. Frazier, LSU AgCenter county agent, who is helping Lynne Grady with her crop on her farm 12 miles south of Tallulah on Highway 65.

This guide includes helpful information on herbicides and weed control with detailed suggestions for aquatics, commercial nursery stock, field crops, forestry, fruit crops, home gardens, lawns and many other Louisiana crops. It includes information on different types of herbicide registrations, as well as information on herbicide labels and restricted uses. Also included are sprayer calibration techniques, suggestions for reducing herbicide drift and a guide to proper spray tip selection.

Don’t miss the first 4-H trip of Summer 08 when Madison Parish 4-H will travel to Baton Rouge for the Seventh Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol on Thursday, June 5, 2008. Following the ceremony we will spend the afternoon at the exciting Blue Bayou water park. The deadline to register is May 2 and all 4-H members registered by the deadline will receive a free 4-H T-shirt! The $40 fee for the trip covers the park fees.

4-H University and Clover College is gearing up to be the best ever in 08! See the registration form attached and submit it to the 4-H office by May 16 with a $25 deposit. If you’re interested in seeking sponsorship to cover fees to compete in any contest or Clover College track, contact the 4-H Office. Training events for many contests have already begun so get your registration forms as soon as possible.
