Welcome to the "Big Clover!"
| | Representing Madison Parish at the 93rd annual 4-H Universtiy at LSU were: left to right: Shaquala Commings, Quinshayla Honeycutt, Nelda Bailey, Ashley Hamilton, and Kara Harvey. | Five Madison Parish teens joined about 1500 other youth, adult leaders and volunteers from across Louisiana for "Welcome to the Big Clover" at the 93rd annual state 4-H University competition held on the LSU Baton Rouge campus, June 19-22.
The Consumer Foods Judging Team of Shaquala Commings, Ashley Hamilton and Kara Harvey placed 12th overall giving them a coveted place in the top 10 percent Blue Ribbon Group. Nelda Bailey also made an impressive performance in the Career Preparation Interview Contest. Quinshayla Honeycutt was awarded her certification as a 4-H state qualified Camp Counselor after completing the 7-hour Phase One training program.
4-H University is what was formerly called 4-H Short Course and includes both the competition events and the Clover College training tracks. 4-H is the youth development program of the nation's Land-Grant University System and is a dynamic effort designed to help young people and their families improve their quality of life. In Louisiana, it is administered by the LSU AgCenter.
4-H University features 38 different contest areas ranging from child development. Winners are awarded educational trips or opportunities to compete in regional or national events.
