This contest is open to all active 4-H club members. The essays must be typewritten, double spaced and 750 to 1000 words in length. The subject of the essay will be a report on “U.S. Honey: A Taste for Every Preference”. Honey Bee Essays are due Feb. 1, 2011. All factual statements must be referenced with bibliographical style end notes. They should include a brief biographical sketch of themselves including date of birth, gender, mailing address and telephone number. Please refer to your leader handbook for more information.

We will be discussing how to fill out the 4-H Portfolio at the club meetings during November 2010.

Livingston Parish 4-H Junior Leadership Club is now taking orders for Louisiana satsumas. They are selling 18-20 pound boxes for $20.00 each and six pound bags for $8.00. Deadline to order is Nov. 11, 2010. If you would like to place an order please call the 4-H Office at 686-3020 and mail your check made payable to Livingston Parish 4-H, P.O. Box 158, Livingston, LA 70754. They will be delivered to the 4-H Office on Nov. 16, 2010, and available for pickup that afternoon. (Order form attached).

The Food Festival will be held at Lewis Vincent Elementary on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. Contests include Seafood Cookery, Beef Cookery, Egg Cookery, Poultry Cookery, Just for Fun Categories and Ambassador Contests (Illustrated Talk).

The Fashion Revue garments are due to the 4-H Office on Jan. 14, 2011, for judging. The 4-H member must also be present for the Appearance Judging and Fashion Show on Feb. 8, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at Southside Elementary.

4-H members and leaders will have the opportunity again this year to purchase New Orleans Hornets’ Basketball tickets at a discounted price. The game will be Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at the New Orleans Arena. 4-H members will also be able to participate in special contests this year. The tickets will be $25.00 each and the deadline to place an order is Jan. 28, 2011. Please fill out the order form attached and send it along with your payment (checks made payable to Livingston Parish 4-H) for the tickets to the 4-H Office by Jan. 28, 2011.
