4-H members in grades 7-12 are invited to join the Junior Leadership Club. We will meet once a month for a business meeting in order to discuss upcoming events and leadership opportunities. We will meet on March14, 2011, at 6:00 p.m. in the Extension Meeting Room, LaSalle Parish Courthouse, Room 23.




Do you enjoy taking pictures? If so, this contest will interest you! It's easy to enter. Each month you can submit one photo related to a theme to be entered in the parish photo contest. The photo theme for January 2011 is Your Choice (Be Creative) and entries are due by Feb. 28, 2011.

The entry form, on the February 2011 newsletter, can be found by clicking on the image of this month's newsletter and printing it out.
 
Rules:
  • Photograph must be a 3" x 5" or 4" x 6."
  • Target designated topic.
  • Attach entry form to back of photo with clear tape.
  • Do not mount photo on paper.
  • Submitted to 4-H office by due date each month.

Divisions:
  • Division I -- 4th grade
  • Division II -- 5th-6th grade
  • Division III -- 7th-8th grade
  • Division IV -- 9th-12th grade




 Six Ways to be an Honest Person

· Hold on to the real you. Be genuine about yourself.
· Own up to mistakes you make.
· Never keep silent when it’s important to tell the truth.
· Earn people’s trust by keeping your promises.
· Stop and think about what really happened so you can tell the truth.
· Tell people the truth, always.






Valentine Snack Plate Ideas

Use red and pink fruits and vegetables for a color theme on Valentine's Day. For a friendship fruit plate, use blood oranges, red and pink grapefruit, red grapes, apple slices, strawberries and other red berries. For a friendship veggie plate, use sliced red peppers, radishes, beets and tomatoes.

Clothing

4th Grade Division
Open to any 4th grade 4-H member.
Make any apron of your choice.

5th Grade Division
Open to any 5th grade 4-H member.
Make a skirt, Capri’s or shorts of your choice.

6th Grade Division
Open to any 6th grade 4-H member.
Make a two-piece coordinating outfit of your choice. Some examples are:
skirt and shirt, jumper and shirt, pants and shirt, capris and shirt, etc.

7th and 8th Grade Division
Open to any 7th and 8th grade 4-H member.
Make a two-piece coordinating outfit of your choice. Some examples are:
skirt and shirt, jumper and shirt, pants and shirt, capris and shirt, etc.

9th -12th Grade Division
Open to any 9th -12th grade 4-H member.
4-H’er will sew a two-piece outfit, choices below.

  • Casual Outfit: includes dress, skirt and blouse, pants and blouse, jumpsuit, etc.
  • Special Occasion: includes outfit for special event such as prom, church, wedding, interview outfit or dinner and date/dance outfit.
  • Creative Choice: garment may be any type and for any occasion. Should be a selection that especially suited to the needs and personality of the 4-H’er and show some growth in clothing construction.

Ready to Wear

4th Grade Division

7th and 8th Grade Division
9th-12th Grade Division

Open to any 4-H member.

The outfit pieces may be ready to wear or a combination of home sewn and ready to wear. This outfit should be suitable for any occasion and should cost less than $100.

Decorated Shirt Contest

4th Grade Division
5th and 6th Grade Division
7th and 8th Grade Division
9th-12th Grade Division

· Open to any 4-H’er.
· 4-H’er may decorate any kind of shirt.
· Decorations can be anything suitable for decorating a shirt such as appliqués, buttons, paint, lace, pearls, etc.
· 4-H’er will model garment with appropriate accessories.

Personal Development Contest

4th Grade Division 
5th and 6th Grade Division
7th and 8th Grade Division
9th-12th Grade Division

  • Open to any 4-H member.
  • Contestants will dress as if going to a special event.
  • Ready to Wear garment can be used for Good Grooming Contest as well.
  • Contestants are interviewed by a judge who also is judging their appearance.
  • Questions may be asked about subject in school, 4-H projects, pets, why they chose the garment they have on; How do they care for their garment. The purpose of the questions is to help the 4-H’er gain skills for interviewing.

First Aid in Action Workshop

  • Learn basic First Aid tips.
  • Practice first aid skills to treat cuts, scrapes, nosebleeds and bee stings.
