4-H Leader Update is the monthly newsletter for organizational leaders and parent volunteers involved in the 4-H program in Lafayette Parish. This newsletter is published from September through May each school year, and this volume is for 2009-2010. Each monthly issue contains information about upcoming events, activities and competitions available to 4-H members.

Results of the 2008 Vegetable Garden Contest that was conducted in March through June. The contest concluded in June with the judging of all gardens.

These results consist of all youth in the parish that turned in project books. The top books will be recognized as Brackin Bowles Outstanding Record Books winners.

A continuation of the total remake of the successful 4-H Mini Farm is planned for April 21-27, 2009, at the John M. Parker Coliseum. The event is called AgMagic. This is an opportunity for individuals, families and schools to experience the benefits of real-world agriculture.

This summer a group of 4-H’ers sat around dreaming and planning for a state wide service-learning project. We wanted a project that could have some effect on every mile of the state; as far north as Shreveport, and as far south as New Orleans. Many great ideas were thrown out on the table but we decided to go green! After all, 4-H is the Original Green!
