Pesticide Information

How to obtain a private applicator's license to purchase pesticides and herbicides for spraying home gardens and lawns:

  • The Jeff Davis Parish Office has a study book for clients to study for the test.
  • After studying, contact our office at (337) 824-1773 or by e-mail to set up a time to take the test. The test is made up of 100 multiple choice questions.
  • You must show a positive photo ID to take the test. A photo ID may include: driver's license, military identification, state identification, etc.
  • The test is faxed to the Department of Agriculture and Forestry in Baton Rouge to be graded. If a passing score (70% or above) is obtained, the client will be notified by mail on how to proceed with the licensing process.
  • The license will require a renewal after a 3-year period ending March 31.

The license may be renewed by attending a re-certification class that is held in January of each year.
