The responsibilities of the Agriculture & Natural Resources (ANR) Advisory Leadership Council are to represent their peers, identify needs and issues, identify opportunities for collaboration, be active in sharing their skills and knowledge to help the parish and understand Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service as a community resource.

Jackson Parish Ag & Natural Resources ALC Meeting
January 15, 2009
Jonesboro, LA
The Jackson Parish Ag & Natural Resource Advisory Committee met on Thursday, January 15th at 2:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Associate Extension Agent, Amanda Sewell. She welcomed and introduced Diane Uzzle, Donny Moon, and Dr. Allen Nipper. Those present included Mark Hammons, Bobby Greer, Robert Moore and Amanda Coody.
The LSU AgCenter mission statement was read and explained by Diane Uzzle, Parish Chair. She thanked the Police Jury for providing offices and talked about how the office is funded. She continued by talking about the Ag Center’s website which is full of information. To access the website go to www.lsuagcenter.com and you can follow links to get to the Jackson Parish site. Diane mentioned that she is available for Financial Resource Management in Jackson Parish and handed out information on programs available to the community.
Donnie Moon asked about critical issues we are facing here in our community. Those mentioned were: economic situation-timber, poultry, beef, horses; financial management; assistance for beef producers-hay storage barns; development of agriculture awareness activities; life skills; livestock center for trainings and expos; and community awareness. Meeting needs mentioned included educational programs, value added programs, field days, and program locations. Some of the program locations mentioned was Jimmie Davis Tabernacle, Jackson Recreation Board, Jackson Parish Community Center, Davis Restaurant, and Jimmie Davis State Park.
A tentative date for October was mentioned for a follow-up meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 pm.
