| 2009 4-H Beef, Seafood and Rice Cookery Results The beef, seafood and rice cookery contest was held in conjunction with Fall Fun Day November 7th. All dishes were prepared at home, from scratch, using a recipe. 4-H'ers learned the importance of following a recipe and were encouraged to select recipes that were low in caloreis, fat and sodium. | 2010 Iberia 4-H Contest Day The 2010 4-H Contest Day will be held Saturday, February 6th at Iberia Middle School. Four-H'ers will be able to participate in over 25 different speaking contests. Various educational workshops will also be held for elementary students. Lastly, the Fashion Contest will be held this day. |

| 2009 Sugarcane Rabbit Show Results The 2009 4-H Sugarcane Rabbit Show was held Saturday, September 26, in conjunction with the Sugarcane 4-H Livestock Show at SugArena in New Iberia. The 4-H rabbit project helps 4-H members gain knowledge and skills concerning rabbits. Also this project provides 4-H members opportunities to learn life skills through participation in a series of learning experiences. 4-H'ers must care daily for their rabbits and work with them in preparation for rabbit shows. | Prescribe Burn Plan Worksheet A prescribe burn plan should be completed by each grower before the harvest season. One plan can be completed for an entire farm or for an individual field. All information needed to plan and conduct a burn and for comments concerning the burn is contained in the form. The plan was devised to help farm operators control the burning of sugarcane to lessen their impact on public health and welfare, which includes pre-burn considerations and weather information. |

| 2009 National 4-H WHEP Competition A Louisiana 4-H team placed fifth overall in the National 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program. Team members were Micah Patout and Ridge Miguez of Iberia Parish, Jeremy Dixon of West Feliciana Parish and Deanna Jason of West Baton Rouge Parish. Sixteen teams from across the United States attended the competition, in which participants were introduced to a tract of land and asked to identify the practices they would use to manage wildlife. |
| 2009 Junior Wildlife Tour Twelve 4-H members in grades 4-8 were selected statewide for the 2009 Junior Wildlife Tour. 4-H record books on Discovering 4-H, wildlife, environment, insects and aquaculture were submitted as part of the competition. The trip was held in August of 2009 at the LUMCON (Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium) facility in Fouchon. Four-H'ers exhibited rabbits and their 3 best broilers at their respective shows. Broiler exhibitors were able to qualify for the state poultry show. Approximately 50 4-H'ers, parents and volunteers attended this educational activity. |

| Mexican Rice Borer The Mexican Rice Borer is a pest of rice, sugarcane and other similar crops such as sorghum. It was first collected in Louisiana in December 2008 near the town of Vinton. It has not been identified in Louisiana Sugarcane, but it is something we must all be on the look out for. See attached for background information. |

| 2009 Projected Louisiana Sugarcane Production Costs This report presents projected cost estimates for sugarcane production in Louisiana for the 2009 crop year. Cost estimates are included for all phases of sugacane production including seedbed preparation, planting, plant-cane and stubble-crop operations and harvest. Whole-farm projected income and expense statements are also included for harvest of sugarcane through second, third and fourth stubble (ratoon) crops. |

Approximately 100 4-H members exhibited some 120 animals in the beef, goat, sheep and swine categories. The 4-H livestock program teaches participants responsibility, sportsmanship, animal welfare, grooming and nutrition.Thanks to all parents and volunteers for your generosity and support of the Iberia 4-H youth development program. |
