Evangeline Parish 4-H Club members participated in the 2008 Southwest District Livestock Show held January 27 thru February 2, 2008 in Lake Charles at the W.T. Burton Coliseum and McNeese Show Complex. The Southwest District Show is represented by six other parishes; Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jeff Davis.
“Exhibitors participated in the Southwest District Livestock Show to quality for an opportunity to compete in the LSU AgCenter State Livestock Show in Gonzales, Louisiana, February 9 thru 16, 2008”, said LSU AgCenter 4-H Agent Todd Fontenot.
Judges at the Southwest District Livestock Show determine the champions in various breeds of beef cattle, dairy cattle, sheep, swine, and goats. The winners from Evangeline Parish are listed as follows.
Brett Saucier of Sacred Heart 4-H was named the 2008 Junior champion Dairy showman and was awarded the John E. Jackson Award.
Lainey Soileau of Sacred Heart 4-H was named the 2008 Jr. Champion Goat showman and was awarded the John e. Jackson Award.
Allison Deshotel of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Brangus Bull.
John Christian Lahaye of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion La. Bred Brangus Bull.
Lauren Parrott of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Grand Champion Brangus Heifer.
Tobi Parrott of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion Brangus Heifer.
Jonathon Fontenot of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Grand Champion LA Bred Brangus Heifer.
Elby Derouen of Sacred Heart 4-H exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion LA Bred Charolais Heifer.
