The Evangeline Parish 4-H and FFA Jr. Livestock Show was held on Thursday, January 17, through Saturday, January 19, 2008 at the Chauncey Pitre Memorial Building.
“Over 100 Evangeline Parish 4-Her’s participated in this year’s Jr. Livestock Show. These 4-Her’s exhibited 26 market hogs, 37 market lambs, 19 market goats, 13 broiler pens, 10 head of dairy cattle, 82 head of breeding cattle, 36 head of breeding goats, 9 commercial heifers and 3 head of breeding sheep. The livestock show is a venue in which 4-Her’s exhibit their animal projects after months of preparation. The preparation includes selection, nutrition, health care, training and grooming of their animals. These responsibilities teach 4-Hers life skills such as communication, discipline, leadership and finance management. The life skills gained through their animal project are values that will benefit them into adulthood and ultimately into their careers.” According to Asst. Extension Agent Todd Fontenot.
The 4-H and FFA livestock program is sponsored by the LSU AgCenter. The 4-H program is open to all youth between the ages of 9 and 19. Children can join 4-H in schools in Evangeline Parish at the beginning of the school year. It is the policy of the LSU AgCenter that no person shall be subjected to discrimination on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, religion, age, veteran status, or disability.

Judges at the Evangeline Parish Livestock Show determine the champions of various breeds of beef, dairy, sheep, goats, swine, and poultry. The winners for the parish show are listed as follows.
Grand Champion Market Goat was exhibited by Sammy Monier, a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H club. The Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat was exhibited by Lainey Soileau, also a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
Grand Champion Senior Goat Showman was Eric Guilllory, Member At Large 4-H’er
and the Grand Champion Junior Goat Showman was Lainey Soileau, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er.
Grand Champion AOB Breeding Goat Buck was exhibited by Jaime Fuselier, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er. The Grand Champion AOB Breeding Goat Female was exhibited by Jaime Fuselier of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
Grand Champion Percentage Boer Goat was exhibited by Eric Guillory, Member At Large 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Percentage Boer Goat was also exhibited by
Eric Guillory.
Grand Champion Purebred Boer Buck was exhibited by Sammy Monier, Sacred Heart 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Purebred Boer Buck was exhibited by Isaac Deshotel, a 4-H’er from Sacred Heart. Grand Champion Purebred Boer Female was exhibited by Eric Guillory, Member At Large 4-H’er. Reserve Grand Champion Purebred Boer Female was exhibited by Kaitlyn Guillory, a Vidrine 4-H’er.
Grand Champion Commercial Goat was exhibited by Laura Beth Fontenot, a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club. The Reserve Grand Champion Commercial Goat was exhibited by Leah Brooke Fontenot, who is also a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.

Grand Champion Commercial Ewe was exhibited by Daniel Aguillard, member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club. The Reserve Grand Champion Commercial Ewe was exhibited by Ashley Deshotels, a Ville Platte High 4-H’er.
Grand Champion Senior Sheep Showman was Daniel Aguillard, a Sacred Heart 4-H’er, and the Grand Champion Junior Sheep Showman was Jacob Aguillard, a member of the Sacred Heart 4-h Club.
Grand Champion Market Swine was exhibited by Billie Manuel of the Pine Prairie High
4-H Club. Reserve Grand Champion Market Swine was exhibited by R.J. Bellon, a member of the Basile 4-H Club.

Grand Champion Senior Beef Showman was Allison Deshotel,a Sacred Heart 4-H’er and Grand Champion Junior Beef Showman was Jordan Lahaye,a member of the Sacred Heart 4-H Club.
Allison Deshotel was selected as the Overall Grand Champion Beef Showman. A Chris Shipp Memorial Champion Beef Showmanship plaque was presented to her in memory of Chris Shipp and donated by the Dwayne and Tina Brignac Family.
