East Carroll Parish is primarily an agricultural production area that produces cotton, rice, corn, grain sorghum, soybean and wheat that are transported from farms to processing facilities by local grain elevators on the Mississippi River and cotton gins/warehouses. Nearby rice elevators facilitate movement of agricultural commodities into trade channels.

East Carroll Parish's long growing season and well-drained farmland make it possible to produce an abundant variety of crops. East Carroll's farming communities have provided an economic base for potential expansion into related industries, such as food processing and packaging.

According to "Louisiana Summary - Agriculture & Natural Resources 2007," East Carroll produced 16,480 acres of cotton; 74,443 acres of corn; 3,065 acres of grain sorghum; 6,002 acres of rice; 59,834 acres of soybean; and 5,364 acres of wheat. Total farm value was $87,175,040. This figure does not reflect forestry, other feed grains and smaller specialty crops grown.
