Bridging the Gap with Literacy

The 4-H Junior Leader Club kicked off it's Bridging the Gap with Literacy program on Wednesday, October 24 at the Haven Nursing Home.

Eighteen Caldwell Parish students in grades kindergarten through second grade were present to learn about good character. This month's lesson, which focused on respect, included a story time and hands-on activities that taught the students how they can be respectful at school, home and in their community.

Teaching this month's lesson were 4-H Junior Leaders Haley Harris, Samantha Sharp, Katie Silvie and Jaime Wallace. Residents from the Haven Nursing Home were invited to watch the character education program or play "Jingo, " a nutrition bingo game.

Assisting the residents during games were 4-H Junior Leaders Maranda Weems, Tara Bratton, Korey Burns, Cole Beckley, Ryan McCann, Andrew Sherman and Dorian Gagne. Bridging the Gap with Literacy will be a monthly event that will continue throughout the school year.
