Clubs of the Month
Congratulations to the Clubs of the Month for September.

Area Leader Forum
Caldwell Parish 4-H volunteer leaders Linda Peterson, Portia Cassels, Danyelle Guerrero and Patricia Russell were among the many 4-H leaders who attended this year's Area Leader Forum held at the Rayville Civic Center. 4-H leaders from the Northeast Area were invited to attend this training where they were given the opportunity to participate in several professional development sessions focusing on 4-H Youth Development. Presenting at this years Area Leader Forum were 4-H state specialists, the northeast area 4-H coordinator, 4-H agents and 4-H volunteer leaders.

Caldwell 4-H Beef Show
The Caldwell Parish Beef Show was held on September 15 at the Columbia Lions Club Rodeo Arena. Twenty-three 4-H'ers from Caldwell and surrounding parishes exhibited their 4-H projects. Livestock team members present at the show were Candace Purvis, Kerry Paul Franklin, Ryan McCann, Abby Hart and Ashlea Hart. We also held a Pee Wee Show to create interest in the beef project.

4-H Catch Phrase for Camp
Slogans for the 4-H Catch Phrase for Camp are due Friday, October 26. Submit a short, catchy phrase that can be used to publicize 4-H Camp. The 4-H'er who sumbits the winning slogan will receive $50.

Louisiana Art and Folk Festival
The Louisiana Art and Folk Festival will be held Saturday, October 13 in downtown Columbia. Please make plans to visit the 4-H Petting Zoo and Children's Tent where there will be many animals, arts and crafts activities and face painting. Members of the Junior Leader Club and Fashion, Food and Fitness Club are asked to help with these activities. If you have not already signed up to help, please call the 4-H office at 649-2663 to designate a time you can work with the 4-H activities.

Junior Leader Club
The Junior Leader Club will take a field trip to Ruston on Wednesday, October 3. The next Junior Leader meeting will be Wednesday, October 24 from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. at the Haven Nursing Home. We will kick off our service learning project "Bridge the Gap with Literacy."

Fashion, Food and Fitness Club
The Fashion, Food and Fitness Club will meet on Wednesday, October 17 at the T&I Building located on the CPHS campus. We will meet from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.

It is not too late to join the Junior Leader or FFF Club. You may bring your $10 fee to these meetings or to the 4-H office and enroll at that time.

Leaf ID Contest
This month's 4-H contest is the Leaf ID contest. Entries are due to your 4-H leader or the 4-H office by Friday, October 26. The contest rules can be obtained from your 4-H leader or the 4-H office or by visiting the Contests page on this website.

Character Corner
This month's pillar of character is RESPECT.
Respect is about treating others the way you want to be treated.
Respect differences and embrace diversity.
Respect others by using good manners, being considerate and dealing peacefully with conflict.

What is a Leader?
Managers - help coordinate the team's work.
Problem solvers - are logical thinkers, suggest solutions and initiate actions.
