ADVISORY LEADERSHIP COUNCIL
COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

July 15, 2008

Members Present:
Representative Henry Burns
Joy Huckaby, Bossier Parish School Board
Gary Wyche, Department of Corrections, Probation/Parole Office

The meeting was called to order at 9:35 a.m.

Terry Foster, Bossier FCS Agent, discussed the purpose of the Bossier FCS Advisory Leadership Council. The individual educational programs that are ongoing in Bossier Parish were discussed and assessed as to the needs of the community.

Recommendations for 2008-2009 programs for Bossier FCS:

1. Continue with the present programs for parenting, workforce preparedness, nutrition programs and financial management programs.

2. Due to the oil and gas boom in Bossier Parish, it was recommended that the SAIL (Saving and Investing for Life) program will be needed in the community for individuals receiving funds from mineral rights and royalties. (I will soon be forming a committee of experts in the areas of investments, banking, real estate, oil and gas law, oil and gas certified public accounting, and other areas of expertise to hold a public informational meeting for concerned citizens with questions in these areas for their financial securities. If you have further suggestions of areas to address or suggestions of names for committee members, please contact me at 965-2326.)

3. Advertising: Develop an email database to advertise classes and information for the public. The members present were made aware of the web site for the AgCenter at www.lsuagcenter.com

4. HSFPP – High School Financial Planning Program – The attendance for the July 1, 2008 class was low with 13 teachers from the area. It was suggested to solicit local funds for a stipend to be offered for the teachers to attend the class. (One name was given as a possible source of funding and, if you have any suggestions, please call me at 965-2326.)

The Bossier Parish Family and Consumer Sciences Advisory Leadership Council will meet again in July 2009. A date will be selected and notification will be sent out at least 2 months prior to the meeting with a reminder letter/card two weeks before the meeting.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:30 a.m.
