Bacterial Leaf Scorch of Landscape Trees
Attached is a new article in the Louisiana Plant Pathology series on bacterial leaf scorch of landscape trees. This is a disease that is quite common throughout the Southeast, but in many cases it has been wrongfully attributed to abiotic causes.

LCES PS-23 Volunteer Policy
Youth and adult volunteers play a critical role to support expanding the outreach capabilities in all LCES programming areas, including 4-H, Agriculture and Natural Resources and Family and Consumer Sciences. To help facilitate a better understanding of working with LCES volunteers, a Volunteer Policy (LCES PS-23) has been developed with input from agents, specialists and our human resource management office to provide guidance as well as direction in working with and managing volunteers.

Bienville Parish 4-H Excels in Baton Rouge. Eighteen of Bienville Parish 4-H’s teens attended 4-H University at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge June 23-26, 2009.
Bienville 4-H Summer Camp
Bienville Parish Summer Camp 2009
Bienville Parish 4-H'ers attended 4-H Camp June 1-5. The camp was held at the LSU AgCenter's Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center, an 80-acre camp located near Pollock, La. Twenty-seven youth, six teen counselors, two adult volunteer leaders and the Bienville Parish 4-H agent attended.

JET Returns
Jurors Empowering Teens (JET) will take off on Monday, June 29, 2009. This summer youth enrichment program will employ 16-18 year old students at various jobs during their summer break. The program will employ two 4-H members and one non-4-H member from each police jury district.

Winter Soil Test
Knowing what nutrients are in your soil and what nutrients are needed is a basic step towards good plant health. Soil nutrient balance must be managed for best plant growth, according to LSU AgCenter horticulturist Dr. Tom Koske.
Soil Samples
Soil Samples are an important part of a good garden, pasture or lawn plan. A soil sample form is needed to send soil samples to the LSU AgCenter Soil Test Plant Analysis Lab.
