Avoyelles 4-H'ers had a great time competing in the state contests at 4-H University in Baton Rouge this summer. Approximately 25 contestants from Avoyelles were present, and rougly 15 placed. Of those, two were state winners and the remainder were blue ribbon winners.

Approximately 80 Avoyelles youth travelled to 4-H Camp Grant Walker to spend a week June 20-25, 2009. The week was filled with fun, games, excitement, a little homesickness and lots of memories which will last a lifetime.

The Avoyelles Parish 4-H Service Learning Project; Pets and People, was carried out at the Farmers Market in Marksville three weekends in a row this summer.

The LSU AgCenter has several resources available to the public. One of them is soil testing for food plots, gardens or crops. Routine test results are distributed seven to 10 working days from laboratory receipt of sample at a cost of $7. The request form and more information are attached.

Avoyelles Parish 4-H'ers participated in the annual 4-H Day at the Capitol in June 2009.

The fourth class of the Avoyelles/Rapides Master Gardener class held their graduation on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in Mansura, Louisiana.
