District 4-H Contest

Results from the Commodity Cookery Contest held at the Alexandria Mall in Alexandria, Louisiana.

The Bread Baking workshop was a success. It was held on Mardi Gras holiday but King Cakes were not the only type of bread that was made. The 4-Hers made pretzels, cinnamon rolls, tortillas, and some students opted to turned their yeast rolls into dinner rolls. Click on the link for recipes from the workshop.

Exhibitors and their families enjoyed the "kick-off" event for the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Louisiana by visiting the 4-H Celebration Stations at the Central District Livestock.

On Monday, February 4th, a cake decorating workshop was held and participants ranged from moms and dads to grandparents and then even a few pre 4-H'ers.

The Avoyelles parish shooting sports program is well underway. Images are provided from the program.

In conjuction with the 100 year celebration of 4-H, 4-H'ers participated in two community Christmas parades.

On October 30, 2007 Avoyelles Parish 4-H held a pumpkin carvin’ at LASAS school.

This summer the 4-H club had a babysitting clinic. The children learned about child safety, how to bathe a baby, how to change a diaper and how to dress a baby.

On November 17, 2007 at the Avoyelles Public Charter School, 4-Her's and community members gathered together for a little turkey fun. There were education stations set up for participants to visit after the run.

Cooking Camp is a way for 4-Her’s to learn how to use cooking tools, learn cooking techniques.

Avoyelles Junior Leaders meet on the first Monday of each month to learn about valuable life skills important for growing into young adults.

Avoyelles Parish 4-H will hold a year-long celebration of events celebrating 100 years of 4-H.

The Avoyelles parish Horse Program is an active group of young people and adult volunteers.

We are having a 4-H T-Shirt fundraiser. We hope that you will proudly wear your 4-H shirt to all 4-H events this year and hopefully wear it on Friday’s or free dress days at school.

The Avoyelles Parish 4-H Food Fair will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2007 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event will take place at the Marksville Elementary Cafeteria. For more information click on the flyer.

A 4-H Turkey Trot Fun Run and Fitness Day will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at the Avoyelles Parish Charter School. The event begins at 7:00 a.m.
