2008 Avoyelles Smart Bodies
Lafargue Elementary participated in the Smart Bodies program during the 2008-2009 school year. This program has three components; the body walk, the organ wise guys, and take 10 activities.
The children participated for 10 weeks with the organ wise guys and the take 10 activities before the body walk arrived.
This day was filled with a lot of fun, laughter, and of course EDUCATION about the human body. | | What makes our system GO? The heart! And what an amazing body system it really is too! This organ needs a rich supply of blood and good foods to keep it strong and healthy. |
| | Windy the Lungs avoids smoking and dangerous air. This system is important because it carries oxygen through the blood to the brain. It's our job to keep the air clean. |
| | The skeletal system stays strong with proper nutrition and protection. Milk certainly does the body good! |
| | Our muscles need a nice stretch every day and regular exercise. Proper nutrition helps our muscles stay strong. |
| | All about the new food guide pyramid. How much exercise do we really need? How much food do we really need to consume in one day? It all depends on our size; height, weight, and how much activity. |
| | | All wrapped up in skin. This amazing body does all of these jobs and to think that it's just covered in skin. Our skin also requires sunshine for vitamins and protects us from harmful bacteria. |
| | The entrance to the body walk is so colorful and bright. The teeth are actually benches for the children to sit on. The children learn about how many grams of sugar are in one soft drink and how to properly floss their teeth. The learning takes place as soon as they step inside and does not end until the very end. It's a whirlwind tour of the body. |
| | We appreciate the parents, junior leaders, and the teachers who worked throughout the day to help the 500+ students go through the body walk. |
| | The mouth is a good place to start when you think about overall body health. What goes into the body begins here so brush, eat well, and make sure you're getting enough water. |
| | The brain was kept on the side and was actually the first of the 11 stops along the way. Each stop was 5 minutes so ultimately it took 55 minutes from start to finish. |
