Ascension Parish 4-H Advisory Committee

The Ascension Parish 4-H Advisory Committee serves to address the needs and issues of youth in Ascension Parish that can be addressed by the 4-H program.

The first meeting of the committee was held April 1, 2009, and had 18 volunteers in attendance. Those present included youth and adults who currently volunteer as leaders, junior leaders, helpers, judges and more. The volunteers met to provide direction for the 2009-2010 4-H program in the parish. Volunteers discussed what issues they felt were most in need in the parish. Members interested in serving on the committee are asked to make a two-year commitment.

Members will identify the needs and issues of youth in Ascension Parish, help set priorities for the 4-H program, help implement the 4-H program and activities, evaluate the impact of the 4-H program and make sure that a broad-based 4-H program is available to all youth. The benefits of membership include the opportunity to work with youth and provide positive support and growth experiences; developing lifelong friendships; developing communication, leadership, time management and organizations skills; gaining respect for the community needs and civic responsibility; and making a positive impact on the community and its youth.

The committee will meet twice a year with the next meeting being planned for fall 2009.
