The Ascension Parish Junior Leader club will be hosting an open house for all returning junior leaders and those Ascension Parish 4-H'ers interested in joining the club. To qualify for membership in the club, you must be in 7th-12th grade and be enrolled in a school/community 4-H club or enrolled as a member-at-large. Open House will be held on Monday, October 20, in the vendor rooms at Lamar Dixon Expo Center. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
The purpose of the Junior Leader club is for youth to acquire leadership and citizenship life skills and improve themselves and their community by working well and working together. As Matthew Hawkins says, “Junior Leaders is a fun way to help out.” The majority of the members of this club will support this statement and say that they have made life-long friends through their commitment to this club.
As a member of the club, one is expected to complete at least 60% of the general community service activities, including helping out at 4-H sponsored activities, contests, etc. Also, all junior leaders must attend 60% of the general business meetings held once a month. At the end of the year, all members who meet these criteria will be invited to attend a club-sponsored trip.
Each junior leader attending the open house meeting is asked to bring one or two bags of wrapped candy. The candy will be used for the part of the meeting devoted to this year’s service learning project, focusing on the elderly. All of the former junior leaders are reminded that a point towards this trip will be given to anyone who brings a friend to join the club. There is also a club fee of ten dollars for new and returning junior leaders.
