During the Easter Holidays eighteen 7th and 8th grade 4-Hers club members of Ascension Parish were geared up and ready to take on the Centennial Challenge at the 2008 camp in Pollock, Louisiana. In addition to the campers, Kayla Haydel and Jamie Templet, Ascension 4-H agents, David Templet, local adult volunteer, Brittany Babineax and Scott Braud, 4-H Jr. Leaders attended challenge camp.
Challenge Camp is designed to develop a positive self-concept, interpersonal relationships, communication, and decision-making skills. Some of the activities use to reach these goals included: “The Domino Effect “; “Rope Knots”; Flag Raising Ceremonies, Bathhouse Clean Up, Vespers, and goal-setting sessions.
This valuable experience has left an impact on a particular camper Amber Reaves a local student of Gonzales Middle. She stated “that the camp was great, she had fun, and there were members that she knew prior to the camp from other areas of the community and was able to reunite with them.” Amber continues ‘that everyone was nice, friendly and got along.”
This annual 4-H event was a fun and challenging experience. We look forward to the 2009 Challenge Camp! Do you want to be a part of this exciting adventure?
