Soil Testing and Plant Analysis Laboratory

The Laboratory offers a variety of soil, plant tissue and water tests to general public and research community. With integrated effort from both research and extension agronomists, the LSU AgCenter Soil Testing and Plant Analysis Laboratory is the only laboratory that incorporates latest Louisiana-specific soil fertility research in its recommendation system to help farmers to meet today's challenges in agricultural production. The laboratory is located at Madison B. Sturgis Hall in Room 126.

Cotton Fiber Testing Laboratory

The Cotton Fiber Testing Laboratory functions as a fiber quality testing facility for Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station cotton researchers. It also cooperates with USDA in the International Cotton Calibration Standards Program and High Volume Instrument System check level programs. It also functions as a fiber quality testing facility for other Agricultural Experiment Stations and commercial concerns on a fee basis. It is one of five designated labs which cooperates in establishing calibration cottons used by the cotton industry for instrument calibration and standardization of results. Samples are evaluated using a High Volume Instrument System in conjunction with conventional fiber testing instruments.

Coastal Wetlands Soils Characterization Lab (Wet Soils Lab)

The Coastal Wetlands Soils Characterization Lab is located in M.B. Sturgis Hall, room 324 and 328. The primary purpose of the lab is to characterize both hydric and nonhydric soils, particularly in the coastal wetland areas. The lab provides services to various private businesses and industries as well as university-wide research projects for AgCenter and LSU. The lab also services State and Federal government agencies. The test procedures follow the Soil Survey Laboratory Methods Manual. Procedures can also be modified to meet customer’s requirements.

Central Analytical Instruments Research Laboratory

The Central Analytical Instruments Research Laboratory (CAIRL) at the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences, is located in Room 312, Sturgis Hall, South Tower Drive, LSU Campus, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The mission of CAIRL is to provide research-oriented analytical services to the School faculty members, other campus and branch station faculty members, as well as the general public. The Laboratory performs analyses on water, plant digests, soil extractions, and other environmental matrices. The CAIRL is committed to QA/QC principles and practices that ensure the accuracy and precision of results. While the analyses are performed primarily using established routine methods, the Laboratory is also willing to adopt novel methods to meet specific needs of clients on a case by case basis.
