The School of Plant, Environmental, & Soil Sciences will prepare you for an interesting and ambitious career. The first two years of the program focus primarily on the core curriculum. The third and fourth year of the program, your classes will be geared towards your concentration. Our program also offers internships nationwide to further your career. Many of our students help finance their education with the help of scholarships and student worker positions.

As an undergraduate student in the Agronomy department, you will have the opportunity to work in research programs to gain valuable knowledge while earning money to help with the cost of your education. The Plant and Soil Systems program provides basic knowledge in a variety of subjects: Environmental Management, Agronomy, and Horticulture.

  • Environmental Management students can choose an area of concentration of environmental analysis & risk management, policy analysis, or resource conservation.
  • Students interested in Agronomy can focus on areas of concentrations such as crop management, or soil science.
  • Students involved in Horticulture this area can choose a concentration of environmental horticulture, landscape management, turfgrass management, or horticulture science.

Environmental Management Systems
The environmental management systems curriculum is partitioned into three areas of concentration: 1) Environmental Analysis and Risk Management, 2) Policy Analysis, and 3) Resource Conservation. Each concentration includes a variety of elective courses that allow students to gain expertise in specific areas that interest them.
Plant and Soil Systems
Agronomy students in the Plant and Soil Systems curriculum can concentrate their studies in the areas of crop management, soil science or agricultural pest management. In addition to the basic curriculum outlined for plant and soil systems majors, students selecting the crop management area of concentration take courses in agronomy, biological sciences, economics, entomology, experimental statistics, genetics and plant health, as well as several hours in approved electives.
