Green Building: Implications for the Wood Products Industry

Tuesday September 29, 2009 at the

Ione E. Burden Conference Center (Map)

4560 Essen Lane (Exit 160 from I-10), Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809

With all the excitement about LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and Global Green building protocols, there is a lot of talk about sustainable building materials.

Green building materials are environmentally responsible because impacts are considered over the life of the product. Some of the factors that make these building materials desirable for use in sustainable building are resource efficiency, energy efficiency and affordability.

Wood-based building materials meet these requirements because they are:

  1. Natural, plentiful and renewable
  2. Produced using resource-efficient manufacturing processes
  3. Locally available
  4. Reusable and recyclable
  5. Durable

The purpose of this meeting is to raise industry awareness to the many uses for wood products in green building projects. This will help develop markets for the forest products industry and provide information on locally available building materials for architects, contractors, home builders and interior designers.

The purpose of this meeting is twofold:

  1. Help the forest products industry target this new and fast-growing market
  2. Introduce the many wood products on the market and provide information on locally available building materials to professionals (architects, contractors, home builders, interior designers) and the many uses for wood in the design of their projects

Discussion will allow wood products manufacturers to learn what requirements must be met for use in sustainably engineered projects, and it will allow industry professionals to learn more about existing products and how they compare to the more traditional materials such as steel and concrete.

Please join us to learn about the benefits of producing/choosing wood for a green building system. Architects, residential contractors, professional engineers and foresters will earn six hours of continuing education credits.
