2013 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships

The 2013 Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships will be hosted by the Louisiana 4-H Horse Clubs, The Monroe, West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Louisiana State University AgCenter at the Ike Hamilton EXPO Center in West Monroe, La., from July 30-August 3. Delegates from 13 states in the Southern region, which includes Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia, will converge in West Monroe to compete in a variety of events.

This championship will include six educational contests that will be held at the nearby West Monroe Convention Center on Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31. These contests include Hippology, a mulitphase knowledge contest that includes written and identification exams, horse judging, and team problems; Horse Bowl, an "all things equine" quiz bowl; Horse Judging, where contestants will rank their placing of horses based on industry standards and oral reason skills; Public Speaking; as well as Individual and Team Presentations, which are illustrated talks given by contestants on an equine-related topic. The horse show will consist of 39 classes and six divisions: Western, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, Non-Trotting, Speed and Ranch.
