Licenses for Louisiana Irrigation Contractors

Irrigation installation
Proper training ensures that all contractors in Louisiana acquire a basic level of knowledge.

All irrigation contractors in Louisiana must be licensed through the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

A Landscape Irrigation Contractor License is required for anyone who constructs, installs, connects, repairs, maintains, improves or alters any portion of a landscape irrigation system, including the required wiring for that system. The law also requires that licensees obtain a water supply protection specialist endorsement from the State Plumbing Board before connecting to a public or private water supply system.

A written exam is required for licensing.

A Basic Irrigation for Contractors Workshop is scheduled on December 2-3, 2008, in Hammond, Louisiana.  This optional but HIGHLY recommended  training program is targeted toward  individuals seeking their Irrigation Contractor's license. Additional workshops are scheduled for February and March, 2009.  For more information, please contact Dr. Ron Sheffield at rsheffield@agcenter.lsu.edu.

For more information on the Landscape Irrigation Contractor License, contact the Office of Horticulture & Quarantine Programs, Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry at www.ldaf.state.la.us or 225-952-8100.
