Academic Information

Our school offers undergraduate (BS) degrees as well as graduate (MS and PhD) in animal science with several optional areas of concentration such as animal science, dairy production, dairy foods technology and poultry science. We also offer training in equine science, meat science, companion animals and pre-veterinary medicine. 

Faculty members conduct nationally and internationally recognized research in a variety of scientific disciplines such as animal nutrition, animal genomics, reproductive physiology, embryology, molecular biotechnology, metabolic physiology, functional foods, meat science and food quality assurance in beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, poultry, small ruminants and swine.

Our extension mission provides a wide variety of education and outreach opportunities. Livestock producers, horse owners,
4-H members, animal industry support personnel, government agencies, corporate interests and the general public benefit from our educational programs.

Welcome to the Louisiana State University School of Animal Sciences. Our mission is to provide research and extension programs in the animal sciences through the LSU Agricultural Center and academic degree programs through the LSU College of Agriculture.

The LSU School of Animal Sciences is a fully integrated animal science program. We provide a wide array of research, extension and academic programs in food, recreational and companion animal production and animal products. We offer Bachelor of Science (BS) degrees in a variety of degree options such as animal science, dairy science, dairy foods technology and poultry science. We also offer training in equine science, meat science, companion animals and pre-veterinary medicine. Our programs prepare students for exciting and challenging careers in a wide range of animal and food industries.
