Purpose:
The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding scholarship and professionalism by M.S. students during their programs of study and/or including the last academic year within which they completed their programs of study in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at Louisiana State University.
Justification:
The primary justifications for this award are to:
1. Promote excellence in scholarship and professionalism within the graduate program.
2. Enhance the competitiveness of LSU students in the job market.
3. Raise the visibility of the graduate program through recognition of recipients in professional outlets.
Selection Criteria:
Individuals who receive the award should demonstrate excellence in both scholarship and professionalism. Award recommendations are submitted to the Department Head by the Departmental Scholarship and Student Recognition Committee based on the following criteria:
Minimum Qualifications
* The nominee must have completed 18 hours of course work in the M.S. degree program in the Department of Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness.
* The nominee must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.5 over course work in their approved program of study, and be in good academic standing during the semester the award is given.
* The nominee must be making satisfactory progress toward completion of his/her academic program.

Nomination Process
Nominations are solicited at the beginning of every fall semester, and awards are presented at the Agricultural Economics & Agribusiness Alumni Association's annual meeting. Nominations may be submitted by either graduate students or faculty. The nomination materials should include the attached nomination form, a nomination letter that outlines the nominee's qualifications, and the nominee's vita. A letter or letters of recommendation can be forwarded under separate cover.
Nature of the Award
Recipients of the award will receive a certificate and have their names inscribed on a permanent departmental plaque. The recipients will be recognized in appropriate professional news letters.
