Master Gardener Classes
The beginning of summer is greatly anticipated by some adults, and not for the reason you might think. The LSU AgCenter provides Master Gardener classes in Minden, Louisiana, starting the first part of June. A 10-week course is offered and taught by AgCenter personnel on botany, entomology, soils, lawns & grasses and other horticultural topics.
Hopeful men and women submit their application for the class in late April and early May and wait anxiously for their acceptance letter. After receiving their letter, they register at the Extension office the week before class starts. A fee of $150 is paid, textbooks are handed out (a huge manual full of wonderful information) and a photo is taken.
The first day of class finds classmates getting to know each other and forging new friendships that will grow as class progresses.
When the 10-week course is complete, graduation is held. Smiles are found all around as new name tags and certificates are presented to the graduates!
The class of 2011 completed their course and held their graduation at the First Methodist Church in Minden. Take a look at the photo of the class. . . a class eager to share their newfound knowledge with their friends and community!
