Learn how to share the gift of gardening with children and your community. Join LSU AgCenter horticulture experts for a morning of learning about this popular trend in youth and community gardening.

“Benefits of a School Garden” -- Dr. Bobby Fletcher Jr., Assistant Director, Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service. Learn how school gardens improve the overall education of children. Dr. Fletcher will focus on key benefits, including increased science scores, enriched environmental stewardship, lower obesity rates and teaching agriculture education.

“School Gardening 101" -- Dr. Katherine Fontenot, Vegetable Community/ School Garden Specialist. Research implies that students who participate in school gardens have improved science scores and increased levels of environmental stewardship. The idea of a school garden is wonderful. But how do I grow one? Kiki Fontenot will present the basic steps in growing a school garden. Topics will cover everything from site selection through harvesting produce in a chronological order.

Community Gardens: Where We Grow Together” -- Dr. Grace Peterson, Assistant Extension Agent/FNP Gardening Programs. Community gardens have many benefits for people of all ages. They provide opportunities to grow healthy, affordable food, and they can be a foundation to build stronger neighborhood connections. Learn how you can start a community garden in your neighborhood.

Admission is free, but a $5.00 donation is appreciated.
