WHO?


The LSU AgCenter and its team of specialists and scientists in:

  • housing and engineering
  • environmental sciences
  • disaster mitigation
  • wood products
  • entomology
  • horticulture
  • family and consumer sciences
  • educational outreach
working with Key Allies from other university and research units, with support from Key Partner state and federal agencies, and private Key Contributors who share a common goal.

WHAT?

Louisiana House - Home and Landscape Resource Center (LaHouse) includes:
  • a permanent, evolving showcase house
  • 7 acres of educational landscape exhibits
  • a teaching center and exhibit space
  • educational outreach to consumers, professionals and youth

that address national and regional challenges, including:

  • energy independence
  • hurricanes and floods
  • pollution prevention
  • waste management
  • asthma, mold and other indoor air hazards
  • barriers to technology transfer
  • unstable fuel costs
  • Formosan subterranean termites
  • warm, humid climate
  • threatened drinking water supplies
  • aging population
  • economic vitality
It includes a wide range of practical and proven solutions that integrate the LaHouse benefit criteria, from no-cost to higher-end, high-performance products and systems for both new and existing homes. It is a hub of ongoing educational outreach through a network of Extension educators on site, in all 64 parishes of Louisiana and throughout the gulf region states. 

WHEN?

Grand Opening is scheduled for July 2008, yet LaHouse educational outreach programs have been underway since hurricane Katrina in 2005. 

WHERE?

At the southeast edge of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, La. The site is adjacent the LSU golf course on Gourrier Ave., off of Nicholson Drive, across from the new LSU baseball stadium and near Tiger Stadium.

WHY?
