Statistics show that at least 70% of all construction work permits issued in Louisiana by local building officials for residential construction activities are being issued to homeowners who, then, hire illegal or unlawful contractors to perform the work on their personal property.
The Contractor Licensing Board has a backlog of nearly 500 complaints where consumers become victims in much the same way. The Licensing Board is working with the State Attorney General’s office and other governmental agencies and boards to help educate the citizens of the state relative to this weakness in the process.
