This 2-day course is designed to acquaint participants with FEMA’s Coastal Construction Manual and to discuss the best practices used for the design and construction of residential buildings built in coastal environments. This manual is the primary, state-of-the art reference for planning, designing and constructing residential (one- to three-story, single- and multi-family) structures and is used in many parts of the country as the authoritative design manual for coastal construction.
Participants receive a copy of the three-volume Coastal Construction Manual in both hard-copy and CD.
Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion for the FEMA Coastal Construction Manual Course. We will provide documentation of attendance and course content to any organization from which the participant wishes to receive such credits. Please indicate on the registration form the organization you will ask to recognize this course for credit.
This course is organized by the LSU AgCenter. The first two sessions were hosted by the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office in summer 2006. The course modifications, instructions and materials were provided by URS Corporation under a Hazard Mitigation Technical Assistance Program contract as part of FEMA’s Hurricane Katrina recovery effort. A small fee may be charged to cover classroom materials not provided by the sponsors.
