   Culture & Community
 Rebuilding & Restoration>Culture & Community>

house

South Louisiana has a rich history, diverse culture and a unique sense of community spirit. These factors have worked together to create the homes, streets, neighborhoods, and cities that we know, and our built environment, in turn, supports this culture.

From the second line parades to neighborhood gumbos and barbecues, the street has long been the common ground and central staging area for various community activities. Lining South Louisiana streets are many structures, both commercial and residential buildings, with different densities and styles.

Recognizing and appreciating this diversity and the rich culture that makes South Louisiana distinct is the first step in designing or rebuilding in a site-sensitive manner. The House and how it relates to the street and the neighborhood become important issues when talking about the culture, community, and urban fabric of the city.
