Foundation Inspection
Leaving a portion of the slab exposed can greatly increase the possiblity of spotting a subterranean termite infestation. (Graphic by Chris Dunaway.) Here is a subterranean termite shelter tube constructed onto the side of the foundation. Above-grade soil and other materials can inhibit inspection and prevent early detection of an infestation. (Photo by Chris Dunaway. To inspect the foundation for the presence of subterranean termites, simply walk around the structure, paying attention to the exposed concrete visible between the soil and the siding.
Look for shelter tubes on the surface of the foundation constructed by the termites. Also be on the lookout for common problem areas described on the following pages.
